The system works by reading a tiny resistor pellet embedded in the key blade. If the resistance value doesn't match what the VATS module expects, the fuel injectors and starter are disabled for several minutes. The most common symptom is an intermittent or complete no-start condition where the "SECURITY" or "THEFT" light illuminates on the dashboard.
